Meet Joe Owens the newest Senior 2020 to be featured in The Faces of The Golden Strip community blog. Joe was a Quarterback for Wren High School this year and helped them capture their first State title in school history. He was recently featured by 7News WSPA in their article “Seven Senior Standouts” and received their Star of the Year honor. You can read the article here.
Q: Where do you go to school?
A: Wren High School.
Q: Have you received any special awards during your High School career (Academic or Sports)?
A: 7News Star of the Year honor, HSBLITZ QB of the Year award, and The Greenville New’s 2019-20 Upstate Football Player of the Year award featured here.
Q: Please tell us about your current plans after high school. And what inspired you to choose this path?
A: I plan to attend and play football at Alabama State University.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: I have 3 younger brothers and a older sister I live with with my mother but I see my father a lot and we are very close.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: Zaxby’s, Sushi Asa, and Stop N Go.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A: Ramon Robinson.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: Key West Florida to go fishing.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies or TV shows?
A: “Hacksaw Ridge.”
Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
A: That I can do anything I want and don’t let no one tell you that you can’t. The teacher was my favorite teacher, Ms. Long, from Hillcrest Middle School.
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: “The Migos”
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
A: Deshaun Watson, because he is and has been to places that I want to get to. We would eat at TGI Friday’s.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: I like that there’s always something to do because there is a lot of stuff in our community.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A: Very happy and financially stable and starting a family.
Q: What show are you binge watching right now?
A: “Greys Anatomy.”
Q: What is your favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: My favorite month is November, my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and my favorite day is November 15th (my Birthday).
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: My father.
Q: If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do different?
A: There is not much if anything I would change, but if I had to change one thing I would attend more school functions.
Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?
A: The movies.
Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?
A: Go to the movies.
