As a renowned professor, researcher and strategic planner for a major North American medical university and an experienced Toastmaster, I enjoy serving through Toastmasters International, the first choice provider of dynamic, high value experiential communication and leadership skills. I am proud to be the Candidate for International Director, Region 7 Toastmasters. I emphasize Back to Basics and moving forward with generational diversity, equity and inclusion, to make mentoring a norm, enhance Pathways educational program, strengthen leader training and lead with fiduciary acumen. I am retired and firmly believe that Toastmasters can enrich the lives of people around the world. Toastmasters educational program will enhance the lives of all generations of people, especially generation Z. Having lived in five countries, I firmly believe that the whole world is my family.

 

Q: Tell us about yourself, including a little bit about where you grew up, your education, your family, interests, passions, and career?
I was born in Myanmar and raised in Thanjavur in India. I obtained Ph.D. Degree from the University of Madras, India and came to McGill University, Canada for my post doctoral education. I met my husband Dr. Rajesh Mathur at Montreal, and married. After moving to Stockholm, Sweden, our professional life led us to settle down at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. We have two children and 5 grandchildren. I have been deeply involved with Toastmasters after my retirement. Toastmasters and my grandchildren are my passion.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in The Golden Strip?
I have lived in Simpsonville for the past 8 years.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am an artist and amateur singer!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in The Golden Strip?
Many Toastmasters all over South Carolina and the world. Especially Celeste Purdie who I knew as a Toastmasters organizer.

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about The Golden Strip?
None.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about The Golden Strip?
People. Warm smiles!

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME or NEIGHBOR?
Love, commitment, children.

Q: If you had friends or family visiting you from out of town, what is the one place that you must take them to?
Home. I love to cook for them.

Q: If you had a free day with no plans, what would you do? Or where can we find you on the weekends?
Go to a romantic or funny movie.

Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
Gregory Peck!

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I have been lucky to achieve so many things. I am content.

Q: What advice would you give to a crowd of people?
Be in the present. Love the people around you. Forgive and forget.
